About Me
About Thanduxolo Doro
I’m Thanduxolo Doro — a health sociologist, behavioural change scientist, and civil society specialist with over 20 years of experience working at the intersection of research, programme design, and implementation.
Throughout my career, I’ve worked in spaces where real change is not only needed but possible — from community-based initiatives to high-level policy platforms. These experiences have shaped my understanding that sustainable transformation requires both vision and grounded, people-centred action.
Over the years, I have led programme governance guided by strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, quality assurance, conflict resolution, and resource management. I believe that good governance is not merely about control — it’s about ensuring that programmes deliver real, lasting impact for the people they are designed to serve.

At my core, I’m a positivist go-getter who thrives on challenge. My academic curiosity is deeply rooted in practice; I’m driven to understand the behaviours and systems that perpetuate underdevelopment — and to help transform them from the ground up.
I strongly believe in context-based programming — designing solutions that respond to real people in real situations, while still drawing on global lessons and innovations. Whether I’m working in a township, a boardroom, or behind the mic on my podcast Unmasked & Thriving, my mission remains the same: to centre lived experience, amplify truth, and co-create spaces of healing, dignity, and action.
Professional Contributions and Expertise
My research contributions include serving on various USAID Bilateral Health Office committees, such as the MINA Campaign Impact Analysis. I also co-authored studies exploring the mental health experiences of frontline healthcare workers during COVID-19 and the causes of antiretroviral therapy (ART) interruptions leading to loss-to-follow-up among people living with HIV (PLHIV).
Through these projects, I have developed strong competencies in collecting, organising, and analysing data to better understand health systems, community behaviours, and the broader industry environment. I’m also proficient in conducting tactical market research, ensuring that findings translate into practical strategies and successful programme implementation.
In addition, I bring extensive experience working within the Civil Society Sector, where I’ve honed the ability to communicate effectively with current and prospective partners. My outreach and communication efforts have consistently focused on strengthening government–vendor relationships and promoting sustainable partnerships.
Leadership and Interpersonal Skills
I am fully conversant with project and contract management principles, ensuring that projects stay on track, potential risks are identified early, and stakeholders remain informed at every stage.
Adaptability and accountability are at the core of my leadership philosophy. I hold myself — and those I work with — to high ethical standards. My approach to conflict is constructive, grounded in empathy, diplomacy, and respect for diverse perspectives.
Strong interpersonal communication, both written and verbal, is one of my key strengths. I communicate with clarity, tact, and compassion, always mindful of the varied backgrounds and experiences people bring to the table.
Finally, I believe in setting SMART objectives and maintaining flexibility to handle unexpected challenges. This approach allows me to manage pressure effectively and remain resilient, no matter the circumstances.
